London Enterprise Adviser Network

12 November 2018

LEAN EA & PUPIL 1

The London Enterprise Adviser Network helps young people build the skills and experiences they need to lead successful futures. It does this by connecting businesses with schools and colleges to create a network of business volunteers, called Enterprise Advisers, and school or college Careers Leaders. This ensures that young people are aware of all the career pathways and opportunities available to them.

On behalf of the Careers & Enterprise Company and Team London, Reed in Partnership is delivering the Enterprise Adviser Network across Central, West and South London.

Enterprise Advisers

LEAN PUPIL

What is an Enterprise Adviser?

As an Enterprise Adviser you will work with a school or college Careers Leader to provide their students with great careers guidance. You will contribute to creating a careers support plan and help students to make informed and important decisions about their futures.

With your help, students will develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their potential.

Why the Enterprise Adviser Network is important

  • 4+ Employer encounters make young people 86% less likely to become NEET*
  • 60% of businesses say that school leavers lack the skills to succeed in the workplace (CBI)
  • 66% of businesses want to recruit people with work experience, yet only 38% offer it (CBI)

*Not in education, employment or training

LEAN EA & PUPIL 2

What support do I get as a school or college?

The programme is free to all mainstream secondary schools, Pupil Referral Units and Further Education colleges.

Your school or college will be matched with up to two Enterprise Advisers, who have committed to working with the programme for a minimum of one day a month for one academic year.

Benefits for schools & colleges

  • Build lasting links with local and national businesses
  • Create a careers strategy and business engagement plan
  • Get careers and sector insight from business professionals
  • Join a national network of careers leaders
  • Provide outstanding careers advice for your students

How it works

Enterprise Advisers will be recruited, trained and supported by our team of Enterprise Coordinators. These are experienced business volunteers who can help your school develop an impactful careers education and business engagement strategy.

We will provide comprehensive toolkits and resources that can be used to articulate and strengthen the careers offer for your students. We will also host careers focussed events for teachers and students to support networking and development opportunities. Through our service, you will access businesses in your area, as well as larger multinational organisations.

By meeting with real people from the world of work, your students will get insight into many different career paths and the appropriate ways to pursue career goals.

"We have been delighted with the impact of the Enterprise Adviser Network. Our Enterprise Advisers have become a critical friend, enabling us to offer the girls opportunities that we previously wouldn't have considered."

Ricky Archer, Assistant Head, Sarah Bonnell School.
