Making healthier choices - Yvonne's story

Meet Yvonne

Before joining Reed Wellbeing's delivery of Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, Yvonne believed she was already leading a healthy lifestyle. However, after learning more about her risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, she recognised there were still opportunities to make positive changes to her diet and daily routine.

By taking part in the programme, Yvonne gained a better understanding of how small, sustainable lifestyle changes could have a significant impact on her future health and wellbeing. She said:

Before I started the programme, I thought I was eating healthy, but it opened my eyes about hidden sugars and what you’re drinking as well as eating, and making sure I get my steps in.

Our support

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme supports people who are at increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes to make practical lifestyle changes that can improve their health and reduce their risk. Through a combination of expert guidance, personalised support and health coaching, participants learn how nutrition, physical activity and behaviour change can help them achieve lasting results.

The programme focuses on helping participants make realistic and sustainable changes that fit into everyday life. Sessions cover healthy eating, physical activity, weight management and techniques to support long-term behaviour change.

Our session delivery is targeted to support participants adapt to the lifestyle and diet changes they have made, ensuring they are able to sustain changes and moving forwards post programme. Our Health Coaches provide an understanding of mindful eating, feeling fuller for longer and knowing your triggers.

Through the programme, Yvonne developed a greater understanding of nutrition and identified practical adjustments she could make to support her health goals:

“Since starting the programme, I’ve cut down on carbs and make sure I have more vegetables. I also watch that I don’t have more than 150 ml of orange juice a day.

By learning more about hidden sources of sugar, portion awareness and healthier food choices, Yvonne was able to make informed decisions that supported her progress.

Moving forward

As a result of the changes she has made, Yvonne has seen positive improvements in both her weight and overall wellbeing. Alongside changes to her diet, she has increased her physical activity levels by making walking and exercise a regular part of her routine.

These new habits have helped her feel more confident about maintaining her progress and continuing her journey towards a healthier future.

I’m happy with my weight loss, so I know I’ve been doing it right, and I feel better for it. I also make sure I’m doing more walking and exercise.

Through the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, Yvonne gained the knowledge, support and confidence to make sustainable lifestyle changes, helping her take positive steps to reduce her risk of Type 2 diabetes and improve her long-term health.
