New Multiply service launches
27 Mar 2023
Next week Reed in Partnership begins delivering the Department for Education’s Skills For Life Multiply programme on behalf of East Sussex County Council to help jobseekers in the area to increase their numeracy skills.
It is estimated that 57% of the working age adult population in England has low numeracy skills. Adults with poor numeracy are more than twice as likely to be unemployed at age 30. The Multiply service offers people with below Level 2 / GCSE Maths competency the opportunity to participate in 24 hours of learning, broken down over four weeks.
The training, led by our dedicated Skills Trainers, will present maths topics in everyday situations across four six-hour sessions. The sessions will include key numeracy skills for sustaining employment such as how to work out travel budgets, measuring time and money, completing timesheets, and working out deductions on pay slips.
Commenting on the launch of the service Marie O’Brien, Head of Delivery Support, said:
“Our delivery of Multiply will provide valuable new support for people whose numeracy skills present a barrier to finding sustainable employment.
“Multiply will support them to improve numeracy skills and build on their confidence with numbers. Increased confidence in their abilities will in turn open more job opportunities up to the participant, as well as help them in everyday life.
“We’re delighted to be able to deliver this new service and support people to improve their circumstances through skills development and better employment opportunities.”
