Pathways to Work - Consultation Response
On 18 March 2025, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) set out its plans to reform health and disability benefits and employment support in a Green Paper called Pathways to Work. It set out the case for change, how it planned to reform the structure of the health and disability benefits system and its plans to expand support to more disabled people who want to work. The consultation on these proposals also included a set of questions on how to improve Access to Work, the Government grant scheme that supports disabled individuals with tailored support for adjustments.
Despite the controversy surrounding the changes that the Government planned to make to eligibility for certain benefits such as the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), there is much to welcome in the approach set out in the Green Paper. This includes a new guarantee of support for all disabled people and people with health conditions claiming out of work benefits who want help to get into or return to work, and a commitment to invest an additional £1 billion into employment, health and skills support by the end of the decade.
As both an experienced provider of employment support and an assessments provider for the Access to Work service, Reed in Partnership gathered evidence from our frontline services to feed into the consultation.
